Ayurvedic Massage

Biggar, South Lanarkshire, Peebles & West Lothian

A 5,000-year-old treatment trusted by athletes worldwide — and one of the most effective tools in our clinic for pain that just won’t shift.

Ayurvedic Massage (Abhyanga)

Ayurvedic Massage (Abhyanga) is a structured therapeutic treatment designed to regulate the nervous system, reduce deep muscular tension, and restore balance in a body that’s under strain.

This isn’t a spa treatment and Kev isn’t the type of therapist you’ll find on a spa day. Rooted in traditional Indian medicine, it uses warm herbal oils and steady hands-on work to calm the nervous system and release tension that’s built up through stress, strain, or overload.

Why Clients Choose Ayurveda Massage

People book this treatment when they’re experiencing:

  • Persistent stress or nervous system overload
  • Ongoing muscular tightness or fatigue
  • Poor sleep
  • Hormonal or menstrual discomfort
  • Digestive sluggishness
  • Skin inflammation
  • Burnout

It’s particularly effective when tension isn’t just structural but stress-driven.

Regular Abhyanga aids the digestive system, improves sleep, circulation and complexion, and helps address the physical side effects of ageing –  the ones that creep up quietly and compound over time.

Pinda Sweda

The Pinda Sweda — What Sets This Treatment Apart

During the full 2-hour Ayurvedic massage, I use the Pinda Sweda, a technique you’re unlikely to have encountered anywhere else.

Pinda Sweda literally means “to sweat” or “perspire.” It uses a bundle of cooked rice and herbs, steamed until hot, applied over the muscles, joints and skin to induce warmth, break down toxins, fast deposits and deeply release tension.

It’s been used for centuries for conditions including arthritis, back and shoulder pain, muscle weakness, emotional imbalance, detoxification and general body stiffness. Most clients encounter it for the first time here and find it soothing and relaxing.

I can visually see the tension in the muscles melt away as they really start to relax, sometimes for the first time in a long time.

Benefits from Ayurveda Massage

I could just write everyone and be done here but specifically individuals suffering from pain, stress and anxiety, skin issues, digestive problems, poor circulation and those looking to detoxify their body.

What Makes Our Approach Different

Kev trained directly with Ayurvedic doctors and specialist practitioners at the Ayurveda Clinic in London. His understanding goes beyond routine technique — he combines ancient Indian medical principles with a full clinical understanding of the body, Kinetic Chain Release (KCR), Connective Tissue Release (CTR) and Functional Movement.

A central part of the treatment is the mobilisation of Marma points — junctions in the body where energy can become blocked, causing pain. Releasing these points allows energy to move freely, alleviating tension in the areas affecting you most. In areas that are causing you issues, you’ll know it’s working — but the relief when it releases is usually immediate.

Where the oils are concerned — these aren’t standard massage oils. Warm medicated oils are selected based on your individual constitution and imbalances, which is why Kev asks questions about your diet and lifestyle before your session. The oil absorbs into the tissue to support healing and balance your dosha throughout the treatment.

Each session becomes more than a massage — it becomes a hands-on treatment, tailored to what your body actually needs.

In Ayurveda, aches and pains are understood as blocks in the body’s energy flow. The massage works to clear those blocks — through the oils, through Marma point work, and through the steady pressure of the treatment itself.

AYURVEDA MASSAGE

Abhyanga is the Sanskrit name for Ayurvedic full body oil massage. It uses warm medicated oils selected for your individual constitution, applied with steady rhythmic strokes to calm the nervous system, release tension and support the body’s natural healing process.

Several things set it apart: the use of warm medicated oils chosen for your specific constitution, the mobilisation of Marma points to release blocked energy in the body, and — in the full 2-hour treatment — the Pinda Sweda rice and herb bundle. The treatment is tailored to your individual needs based on a short consultation before the session.

Many people notice improved sleep, reduced tension and a sense of calm for several days after. With regular sessions, these effects build and become more sustained. in exceptional circumstances.

Depends on what you’re coming in with and how your body responds. Some clients feel significant relief after one session. Others come regularly as part of how they manage stress, recovery or hormonal health — it becomes part of the toolkit.
